Carbon Monoxide - The Invisible Killer
Length : 02:14 | Category : PUBLIC SAFETY
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission / Published on Aug 4, 2011 / Carbon monoxide, also known as CO, is called the "Invisible Killer" because it's a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. More than 150 people in the Unites States die every year from accidental non-fire related CO poisoning associated with consumer products. These products include faulty, improperly-used or incorrectly-vented fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces. Never use portable generators inside your home, garage, basement or shed. CO from a generator can kill your family in minutes. Only use them outside and far away from windows, doors and vents. Keep charcoal grills outside where they belong. Never use a charcoal grill in the house or garage. They can produce lethal levels of carbon monoxide. To protect your family from deadly carbon monoxide, see our Safety Tips at www.cpsc.gov/info/co/safetytip

By the time the United States acquired Florida in 1821, only five or fewer Timucua remained. They quite possibly became extinct as a people, however DNA research is taking place with individuals in Cuba, where it is believed that many Timucua were taken by the Spanish in 1763, when Spain ceded Florida to Britain.

Length : 01:42 | Category : ENVIRONMENT
Many pool owners don't realize how much energy their pool pump may be wasting. All swimming pools have at least one recirculation pump, but many have multiple pumps. Conventional pool pumps, with only one speed, are set to run at the higher speeds required of the pool cleaner and waste energy during filtration operation by running faster than necessary. ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps offer variable speeds that deliver the right speed for different tasks and use much less energy. Look for utility incentives in your area toward the purchase of an ENERGY STAR certified pool pump.

Native Americans in Florida
Length : 03:29 | Category : ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT
The National Parks Service presents this short look at the Timucua Native Americans. The Timucua were a Native American people who lived in Northeast and North Central Florida and southeast Georgia. They were the largest indigenous group in that area and consisted of about 35 chiefdoms, many leading thousands of people. They thrived from approx. 1000 AD up to the late 1700's.
