Pet Connection-Backyard Dangers for Your Pet
Length : 01:02:11 | Category : PUBLIC AFFAIRS
Every year, thousands of pets are hurt or sick on their own backyard. Florida's wildlife and year-round warm weather presents a myriad of opportunities for pets to encounter injury and acquire parasites or diseases from the ground. In this episode, Dr. Vargas is joined by Dr. Donna McWilliams, owner of My Pet's Animal Clinic in Lakeland. They will discuss the top hidden dangers for pets and teach viewers what they can do to prevent these dangers. 'I have seen too many cases of toxicity that could've been avoided had pet owners known what type of landscape is pet friendly,” said Vargas. 'Unfortunately, serious dangers to your pets can be found right in your backyard - parvovirus, parasites, rattlesnakes, ticks, and even rabid wild animals can harm pets and possibly other members of your family.”

These products include faulty, improperly-used or incorrectly-vented fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces. Ask the Expert - EnergyStar Pool Pumps
Length : 01:42 | Category : ENVIRONMENT
Many pool owners don't realize how much energy their pool pump may be wasting. All swimming pools have at least one recirculation pump, but many have multiple pumps. Conventional pool pumps, with only one speed, are set to run at the higher speeds required of the pool cleaner and waste energy during filtration operation by running faster than necessary. ENERGY STAR certified pool pumps offer variable speeds that deliver the right speed for different tasks and use much less energy. Look for utility incentives in your area toward the purchase of an ENERGY STAR certified pool pump. For more information about pool pumps, go to http://www.energystar.gov/poolpumps For more about rebates and incentives, go to: https://www.energystar.gov/rebate-finder For more about EPA: http://www.epa.gov/

Monofilament Entangled Manatee
Length : 03:19 | Category : ENVIRONMENT
In May 2016, the FWC tracked and rescued an adult female manatee in New Port Richey that had both flippers entangled in monofilament line. After two months of rehabilitation at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo it made a full recovery and was released in New Port Richey in July 2016. This manatee beat the odds. This video highlights the importance of a marine environment free from monofilament line. To report entangled, injured or dead marine mammals in Florida waters, call our Wildlife Alert hotline at 888-404-3922. To learn how to properly recycle your fishing line, go to www.fishinglinerecycling.org or visit the Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Facebook page: www.facebook.com/FloridaMRRP.

Length : 00:32 | Category : PUBLIC SAFETY
Work Zone Speeding: A Costly Mistake is the slogan for the 2014 National Work Zone Awareness Week Campaign (April 7-11). This year's slogan and Public Service Announcement video were designed to help motorist consider the potential costs of speeding, especially during the busy roadway construction season. When traveling at high speeds drivers can arrive at a roadway work zone too fast to stop. This costly mistake has resulted in fines, jail time and death. Work zone crashes kill hundreds of roadway workers, motorists and passengers every year. The public is encouraged to watch the PSA and share the link. Prevention is everyone's responsibility.

Carbon Monoxide - The Invisible Killer
Length : 02:14 | Category : PUBLIC SAFETY
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission / Published on Aug 4, 2011 / Carbon monoxide, also known as CO, is called the "Invisible Killer" because it's a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. More than 150 people in the Unites States die every year from accidental non-fire related CO poisoning associated with consumer products. These products include faulty, improperly-used or incorrectly-vented fuel-burning appliances such as furnaces, stoves, water heaters and fireplaces. Never use portable generators inside your home, garage, basement or shed. CO from a generator can kill your family in minutes. Only use them outside and far away from windows, doors and vents. Keep charcoal grills outside where they belong. Never use a charcoal grill in the house or garage. They can produce lethal levels of carbon monoxide. To protect your family from deadly carbon monoxide, see our Safety Tips at www.cpsc.gov/info/co/safetytip

By the time the United States acquired Florida in 1821, only five or fewer Timucua remained. They quite possibly became extinct as a people, however DNA research is taking place with individuals in Cuba, where it is believed that many Timucua were taken by the Spanish in 1763, when Spain ceded Florida to Britain.

Native Americans in Florida
Length : 03:29 | Category : ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT
The National Parks Service presents this short look at the Timucua Native Americans. The Timucua were a Native American people who lived in Northeast and North Central Florida and southeast Georgia. They were the largest indigenous group in that area and consisted of about 35 chiefdoms, many leading thousands of people. They thrived from approx. 1000 AD up to the late 1700's.
