As a requirement to receive their first national Tree USA Designation, the City of Palm Coast organized an annual event to celebrate Arbor Day. In 2006, approximately 60 residents attended this introductory program, held with four local green vendors at the Indian Trails Sports Complex. Over the last ten years, Palm Coast's Arbor Day event has become one of the City's most popular gatherings. It eventually moved to the Palm Coast Community Center and when the space and parking lot could no longer accommodate so many guests, Arbor Day moved to its permanent location at Central Park in Town Center. Hundreds of people stop by each May to exchange non-perishable food items for a free 3- gallon tree, visit green vendors selling environmental products and enjoy music and refreshments, environmental activities, a butterfly release and direct contact with native animals. Over the past few years, a 5K Run and One Mile Family Fun Run/Walk has been added to the event, making it an extraordinary community destination each year.
