Water that comes from car washing can contain a variety of pollutants including (but not limited to) oil, grease, soap, and other chemicals. Many of these pollutants are discussed in other sections of the "Making a Difference" page.
Some ways to reduce pollution from car washing are:
- Use a commercial car wash;
- Wash your vehicle in areas that can absorb water;
- Use biodegradable, phosphate free water- based cleaners; and
- Empty your wash bucket down a sink drain or toilet.
