Our Public Works Department, Fleet division currently has an opening. Depending on level of experience, candidates may be hired as a Mechanic I, II or III. Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform skilled work involving the maintenance and repair of gasoline or diesel driven motors and related auto equipment, landscaping equipment, machinery, and tools. Employee performs complex work with independence, and more difficult work under guidance and supervision of the Mechanic Lead.
Mechanic I
Must possess and maintain at least two (2) certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) medium and heavy truck certification test series from the following categories: Brakes, Suspension, Electronics, Air Conditioning-Heat & Ventilation, and Preventive Maintenance.
Mechanic II
Must possess and maintain a Class "A" Florida Commercial Driver's License. Must poses and maintain at least four (4) certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) medium and heavy truck certification test series which includes the following categories: Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Electronics, Air Conditioning-Heat & Ventilation, Preventive maintenance, Drive train, Diesel Engines and Gasoline engines as well as administratively approved Emergency Vehicle Technician certification(s).
Mechanic III
Must possess and maintain a Class "A" Florida Commercial Driver's License. Must poses and maintain all of the certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) medium and heavy truck certification test series which includes the following categories: Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Electronics, Air Conditioning-Heat & Ventilation, Preventive maintenance, Drive train, Diesel Engines and Gasoline engines as well as administratively approved Emergency Vehicle Technician certification(s).
All positions require (5) years responsible experience in automotive and heavy equipment/machinery maintenance and repair, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Experience monitoring, updating, and maintaining inventories for parts and supplies is preferred. Must possess a HS Diploma or GED.
