Monofilament Entangled Manatee

In May 2016, the FWC tracked and rescued an adult female manatee in New Port Richey that had both flippers entangled in monofilament line. After two months of rehabilitation at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo it made a full recovery and was released in New Port Richey in July 2016. This manatee beat the odds. This video highlights the importance of a marine environment free from monofilament line. The FWC has a free Florida Gopher Tortoise smartphone app you can download to help us gather information on the tortoises. You can take a photo of a gopher tortoise or a burrow and it will be sent automatically to the FWC along with its GPS coordinates. One of their assignments was to envision, create and give shape to what will be a formal, ongoing internship program for future classes of students. After two months of rehabilitation at Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo it made a full recovery and was released in New Port Richey in July 2016. This manatee beat the odds.
