Palm Coast - Three City of Palm Coast videos - two related to public safety and one that's used to recruit college interns - have earned awards in state and national competitions.
Video Production Coordinator Tom Hanson and Digital Communications Coordinator Jason Giraulo were recognized Tuesday at the Palm Coast City Council meeting. Both are part of the City's Communications & Marketing Division and Palm Coast Television (PCTV).
The "Find Your Future - Internships with the City of Palm Coast" video showcases the City's internship program from the interns' perspective and is designed to promote the internship program. It can be viewed at https://youtu.be/77sahzaeuEI. The video production team earned three national honors for it:
- 2017 Telly Awards - Bronze Award in the Government Relations for Non-Broadcast Productions category;
- Communicator Awards - Silver Award for Distinction in the Film/Video-Government Relations category; and
- NATOA (National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors) Government Programming Awards - Third Place in the Public Education category (for operating budgets up to $250,000).
The "Zombie Survival Guide to Bicycle Safety" earned three national and state awards this year, in addition to a 2016 Telly Award received last fall. With the target audience being young people from early teens through 20s, the team selected a zombie theme in the fashion of Zombieland - but with "rules" for bicycle safety. The video stars Deputy Fire Chief Jerry Forte and other Palm Coast firefighters, along with family members of City employees. It can be viewed at https://youtu.be/owQO3egV2CQ. The2017 awards are:
- Florida Public Relations Association Golden Image Awards - Golden Image Award in the Video-Public Service category;
- Communicator Awards - Silver Award for Distinction in the Film/Video-Safety category; and
- NATOA Government Programming Awards - Third Place in the Public Safety category (for operating budgets under $300,000).
The "Holiday Fire Safety Tips - Meet Joey Christmas" video also earned a national award. The City and Joey Christmas go around the home to present practical, fire-wise tips for the holidays in this video, which can be viewed at https://youtu.be/XaowMx3wAKY. Joey Christmas is played by Palm Coast Fire Lt. Joey Paci, and also appearing are Lt. Paci's wife, Abby Paci, and Fire Lt. Matt Stevens. This is the latest in a series of PSA videos produced in partnership with the Palm Coast Fire Department. The award is:
- 2017 Telly Awards - Bronze Award in the Safety for Non-Broadcast Productions category.
The Communications & Marketing Division produces dozens of videos in coordination with all City departments each year. The videos can be viewed on the City's YouTube Channel at www.palmcoastgovtv.com.
"We are humbled and honored to have these creative projects recognized by the prestigious Telly Awards, Communicator, FPRA and NATOA video awards," Hanson said. "These latest awards are a testament to our in-house collaborative work with City staff, whose daily work inspires and informs our content."
About the awards programs
NATOA's Government Programming Awards (GPAs) are annual awards recognizing excellence in broadcast, cable, multimedia and electronic programming produced by local government agencies. Categories cover a wide variety of topics from community events, documentary and public affairs to performing arts, sports and election coverage.
The Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV and online videos and film productions. Judging is done by a panel of over 500 industry professionals, each a past winner of a Telly Award and a member of The Silver Telly Council.
The Communicator Awards, presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts, recognize the best in advertising, corporate communications, public relations and identity work for print, video, interactive and audio.
The Florida Public Relations Association's annual Golden Image Awards program celebrates excellence in public relations. The Golden Image Award is given to the top entry in each of four divisions, and Palm Coast's Golden Image Award was for the Digital Tools of Public Relations division.
