Trash and Litter
Trash that is discharged from stormwater systems can trap and poison animals in aquatic habitats. Even items as small as cigarette butts and filters are threats to wildlife. These items have been found in the stomachs of fish, birds, and whales. Getting trapped in the rubbish can cause serious discomfort or death to wildlife. The United States has spent up to $11.4 billion on country-wide cleanup efforts.
The best deterrent to waterway debris is an informed citizenry. Citizens being mindful to dispose of waste properly is the best way to eliminate debris in our waterways. The City strongly supports participation by residents in neighborhood and area cleanup efforts. By being mindful of our own impact and disposing of trash we see during daily activities, we can help keep Palm Coast beautiful.
