The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach will host a "Family Introduction to Fishing" clinic on Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9:30 a.m.–2 p.m. Bring the family to the park for a day of introductory fishing! The program will cover casting, bait, rigs, lures, knot tying and will follow the “catch-and-release†approach. Equipment and bait is provided. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Bring sunscreen, bug repellent and water. Lunch will be provided, or you are welcome to bring your own if preferred. The cost of the program is $10 per family and proceeds benefit the Friends of Florida State Parks and Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area. Park entrance fees will also apply: $5.00 per carload of two to eight people, $4.00 for one person in a car and $2.00 per pedestrian or bicyclist. Potatoes are part of Flagler County's roots. The spud was a local staple crop for 50 years, and remains today an important agricultural feature and iconic representation of the county’s agricultural heritage. Thanks to the Bunnell Chamber of Commerce, the City of Bunnell and the City of Bunnell Community Redevelopment Agency, the potato will have its annual day in the sun at the Fourth Annual Potato Festival Saturday, May 19. The festivities will take place in and around Bunnell City Hall from 10AM to 4PM. According to Michael Barr, chair of the Bunnell Chamber of Commerce, "The Potato Festival is a great annual event that allows us to celebrate Bunnell’s agricultural history while enjoying the city’s hometown hospitality." The event is guaranteed to appeal to kids of all ages, with fresh, locally grown french fries, cold beer, vendors, live music, a cooking competition for politicians and a parade. Don’t miss the pageant to crown local "potato princesses" and "tater tots" starting at 10AM, or the mashed potato eating and sculpting contests, sack and relay races and other spud-related activities. All in all, the Potato Festival offers an inexpensive and family friendly opportunity to enjoy the day and celebrate Bunnell’s history.

The cruise times are as follows:
Sunset Cruise: 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Boarding begins at 6:45 p.m. *ALMOST SOLD OUT*
Early Cruise: 4:45 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. Boarding begins at 4:30 p.m.
Participants will take a relaxing cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway aboard the Hurricane Queen, sponsored by International Marine Ecological Research Solutions, Inc. (IMERS). This hour and a half-long cruise will feature complimentary refreshments while you enjoy the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway and a program provided by a ranger. Bring a camera!

The purpose of the meeting is to give owners of home based business the opportunity to share their experiences and network with others. Participants of all levels of experience are welcome and will receive a brief safety demonstration and an introduction to basic kayaking techniques and gear requirements. Sessions will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 9 am until 4 pm. Fees are $125 per camper.*** Early and/or late drop/pick up available from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm ($25 extra per week per camper). The camps are open to kids 5 to 10 years old. Maximum enrollment per camp will be 10 children with a ratio of 5 campers to 1 counselor. Camp sessions will run:
SESSION 1 June 26, 27, & 28
SESSION 2 July 17, 18, & 19
SESSION 3 July 31, August 1, & 2
Camp modules will include 'meet the critters', what's growing in the garden?', 'a farmer's work is never done', lots of hands-on activities, and arts & crafts. Kids will be introduced to farm basics about beekeeping, animal care, carpentry, composting, and daily chores.
*** Campers must wear close-toes shoes and bring their own lunches, snack, and plenty of water. Hats, sunscreen and bug spray are strongly recommended.
